About the role
We’re seeking a Software Engineer (APIs & Integrations) to build and operate the integrations layer that connects Vega to the platforms financial advisors already use every day, including CRMs, financial planning software, calendars, custodians, email clients, and document systems.
This is a high-impact, high-ownership role for someone who is comfortable owning real backend systems end-to-end and navigating the complexity of third-party APIs at scale. Reporting to engineering leadership, you will be a foundational member of the team responsible for one of the largest and most important surfaces of Vega’s backend.
You will own the bidirectional flow of data between Vega and the broader advisor stack, making sure meetings, contacts, notes, tasks, emails, and calendar events stay accurate and in sync across every system advisors trust to run their practice.
Responsibilities
Building integrations
- Design, build, and operate integrations with the platforms advisors rely on, including CRMs (Salesforce, Wealthbox, Redtail), financial planning software (eMoney, MoneyGuidePro, RightCapital), calendars (Google, Outlook), and email clients (Gmail, Outlook).
- Implement OAuth, API key, and webhook flows that keep integrations reliable and secure across thousands of advisor accounts.
- Translate the quirks of each third-party API into clean, predictable interfaces inside Vega.
Sync, reliability & data quality
- Build bidirectional sync layers that keep data accurate as it moves between Vega and external systems.
- Design retry, backoff, and reconciliation patterns that hold up under real-world conditions, including rate limits, outages, and partial failures.
- Own observability for the integrations layer, including monitoring, alerting, and clear signals when something goes wrong for a customer.
Backend engineering
- Build and maintain the Python services and data models that underpin the integrations stack.
- Partner with the broader engineering team on internal APIs, queues, and storage choices that make integrations easy to add and reason about.
- Help shape the patterns we use for new integrations so the surface scales as we add more.
Cross-functional collaboration
- Partner with Product and Customer Success to prioritize new integrations and improvements based on what advisors actually need.
- Work with the AI and product teams to make sure integrated data is structured well for downstream features, including meeting capture, email drafting, and research workflows.
- Document integrations clearly so support, success, and the rest of engineering can move quickly with confidence.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience shipping production software, ideally including meaningful work on integrations or backend systems.
- Solid Python fundamentals and comfort building real backend systems, including APIs, queues, and databases.
- Comfort with REST, OAuth, webhooks, and the realities of working with third-party APIs.
- Working understanding of distributed systems concerns: idempotency, retries, rate limits, and eventual consistency.
- Strong project management skills and a structured, detail-oriented approach to building and documenting technical workflows.
- Strong written and verbal communication, especially when working asynchronously with a small team.
Nice to have
- Experience integrating with CRMs (Salesforce, Wealthbox, Redtail, HubSpot) or financial planning software.
- Experience with calendar and email APIs (Google Workspace, Microsoft Graph).
- Experience at an early-stage startup or as an early engineering hire.
- Background in financial services, fintech, or another regulated industry.
What “great” looks like
- You can take a complex third-party API and turn it into a clean, predictable interface advisors and the rest of the team can rely on.
- You think about reliability and data quality up front, not as an afterthought.
- You have strong opinions about retry, backoff, and reconciliation patterns based on real systems you have run.
- You can balance shipping a new integration quickly with building patterns that scale to the next ten.
- You are comfortable digging into a customer issue across multiple systems and getting to the root cause.
Why join us?
- Join a fast-paced, high-growth startup at an early and exciting stage
- Work at the frontier of artificial intelligence, the defining technology of this generation
- Collaborate with a small, young, and highly ambitious team
- Competitive salary and benefits
- Mostly in-person role, with meaningful flexibility to work from home
- Flexible and trust-based PTO culture
